I started managedwealthsingapore.com to share with people what I have learned about wealth management. To be honest, I wish it will be a marketing tool as well. I am really happy when I meet someone and hear that they benefited and enjoyed the site.
As I was being trained in wealth management and working in the industry, I discovered two problems quite opposite in nature.
Some very low standards exist in the financial advisory industry. I felt that there is a lack of available and clear information on the topic of financial planning and wealth management to consumers. Due to information asymmetry, consumers do not demand what they deserve. As such, this creates opportunities for incompetent advisers and bankers. Some consumers form deep distrust (on occasions, justified) of finance professionals.
Among the academia and product people there is an emphasis on increasingly complex information and products. I always felt that there was a disconnection between where developments are being made and what the client really needs. I loved complex and important economic and market issues presented in simple forms. I hope to share valuable information in a way non-financially-trained people can understand. This inclination shows in my many adaptations and links.
I was born in Singapore and went to University at Singapore Management University Business School majoring in Finance. Those college days were filled with entrepreneurial activities that students dealt in hoping to shape the culture of the school. I excelled in some sports and was not cream of the crop in academic sense. I joined the corporate world with Citibank N.A., Singapore Branch in Commercial Banking. During the booming years, the lure of prestige and wealth in the wealth management industry captivated me. I left Citi before fully realizing the potential the company believed I had. I completed my Masters of Science in Wealth Management jointly offered by Singapore Management University, Wealth Management Institute and Swiss Finance Institute. Concurrently, I was with OCBC Private Bank. After completing my post-grad, I had a stint in Citi Private Bank during the height of the financial crisis.
In the events following the crisis, I joined an independently owned financial advisory firm, something I have never imagined I will. I give thanks to the developments in the financial market which led me here. This role is something so powerful but has never been given justice by practitioners as well as the public. My view of wealth management and personal finance has been shaped over the years of dreaming, learning, working and finally practicing.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank the person making this site possible. The site will be best enjoyed by someone who is not familiar with the financial industry. Issues will be presented in layman terms. it is my aim too for this site to help consumers who do not want to spend time studying the financial markets but would like to find a trusted adviser to assist them.
